I just started going to the parks in Thailand. Now i am hooked. I am heading to BKK tomorrow to buy a desent camera and binnoculars.

I just visited 25 parks in the North but only camping and hiking. Now I am going to stat my hobby as birding. The out of the way places in Thailand are great.

I have a 2008 Ford duroTorq, a motorcycle. Now i am going to outfit the truck and motorcycle for touring. I plan to stay about a year or two just camping and exploring the parks and trails.

As i am getting older now. I think if i want to do this i should do it now.

I enjoyed reading your articles.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Although still common in and around Chantaburi it looks like numbers are decreasing here too. Many suitable habitats have disappeared, mainly for houses or highways.

Great Photos! I stumbled across this page while searching for information on Flicker Books, that sequence of images of the Little Cormorant would indeed make a good flicker book. If anyone is interested in having a real Flicker Book printed from a short video sequence, have a look at Flickaclip at http://www.flickaclip.co.uk who can produce Flicker Books from your own supplied clips.

They have a similar situation at the research houses at Khao Yai a Great Hornbill and Wreathed Hornbill (called Gok and Cook key after the Thai names). The Great was an unwanted pet from a local village and is not as tame as the Wreathed which was confiscated from poachers as a chick. The wreathed Hornbill also has a similar fascination with shoelaces. They associate with each other but not other Hornbills in the area.

Both nice to have around, but can be nuisance if your busy trying to do something.

The boardwalk is exactly where you have said. From the car park, with the river in front of you, the boardwalk starts to the left of the restaurant building - it is easy to see. Not that many birds but quite a nice trail and a few Crab-eating (long-tailed) Macaques.

I often see Yellow-vented Bulbuls where I work on Chareon Krung road. Probably because there are a few large trees right on the banks of the Chao Phraya.

When I visited the fort some years ago, I did not notice this boardwalk, though I have to admit I did not look around that much for one either. Where does it start exactly - looking in Google Earth it looks like there's such a structure next the the building north of the HTMS Maeklong. Well, if I get to visit the fort again I will look for it, though I am probably not patient enough to wait for the birds walking in the mangrove is already a nice view.
